"There are no words to describe the INCREDIBLE experience I had on this program during the summer of 1994, between my Junior and Senior years in high school. Not only did I meet amazing people and create lifelong, meaningful friendships, but I learned about the most beautiful, dynamic country in the most interesting and creative way. Instead of traveling the country randomly and learning about all different periods in its history depending on what site we were visiting that day, we learned, chronologically, 4000 years of Jewish history, taking trips to the sites that corresponded with what we were learning about. Being in the classroom three days a week and taking trips three days a week made the learning so meaningful and real. The classroom learning was interactive and fun, with teachers who become friends and part of your "Israel family." It made the country come to life in a way that, on my numerous trips previous to that one, it never had. This time, I really GOT IT! I will never forget this experience, and it will always remain my most meaningful, exciting, and memorable childhood summer! I HIGHLY recommend this program!"

Participant,

"I attended this 2-month program as a senior in high school, nearly 14 years ago. (Wow, I'm gettin old!) In the intervening time, I've had quite my fill of school and learning. To this day, some of the greatest teachers I've encountered and some of the most profound lessons I've learned took place at AMHSI. This program is incredibly well-run from the logistics of trip-planning and housing of students to the rigorous academic and spiritual curriculum. There was no brain-washing (in fact, not even every student in my dorm was jewish, and one of the teachers was a self-proclaimed atheist), but we did connect deeply with our own sense of identity and Self as well as with others. The complexity of the critical thinking which we were pushed to perform -- sometimes while on daytrips, where we would have lessons and debates on mountaintops -- was unlike anything I had encountered in high school. As you can imagine, this experience served as amazing preparation for college. My time in Israel was a particularly turbulent one during which several suicide bombs were detonated -- to say that the staff at AMHSI looked after our safety needs, our social needs, and our emotional needs during this time would be an understatement. Their compassion and competence in dealing with those difficult circumstances showed such amazing skill that any reticent, potential parent should rest assured that your child will be incredibly well-cared-for regardless of what may happen during the trip. Of course, it wasn't all learning and growing. Countless hours were spent joking around with other students in the dorms, on the frequent trips, and sauntering into the adjacent town for amazing falafel (at the blue shack!). We took cabs into Tel Aviv to enjoy the shopping and to Netanya to lay out on the beach. Anyhow, I can't recommend this program highly enough for all that I experienced and all that it has given me.
