Program Description:

Established in 2007, the Big Horn Basin Foundation's Dinosaur Academy is a week long program for high school students that explore the many aspects and disciplines of paleontology. Participants will spend a week in the dinosaur quarries and state-of-the-art laboratory facility of the Wyoming Dinosaur Center in Thermopolis, Wyoming. In the 16,000 square foot museum you will view over 24 mounted dinosaurs as well as hundreds of other incredible specimens on display, including the only Archaeopteryx displayed in the western hemisphere.

Students will study and learn about the life and death of the dinosaurs they discover, their habits and the environment in which they lived. You will also learn surveying, mapping, 3D scanning, collection management, recording data and molding and casting. Participants will be engaged in scientific inquiry and what you learn will be based on your experience and observations. If you plan to pursue an education in geology, anatomy, biology, zoology, chemistry or physics, the Dinosaur Academy is for you! Cost / Availability of Financial Aid: The cost for the Dinosaur Academy is $945, which includes all housing, 24/7 chaperones, all meals, all necessary tools and equipment, and all transportation once you arrive in Thermopolis, Wyoming.

Credit Awarded: Available through Central Wyoming College at an additional cost
