Reviews:

"Humanities Spring was a wonderful experience. The field trips were fascinating; we saw everything from Roman temples to medieval churches. I knew nothing about Latin, Italian, or art history going into i, and I was able to learn in an environment that was serious but without the negative pressures of school. We were able to see parts of Italy that were beautiful and culturally rich yet not overrun by tourists. The teachers were knowledgeable and passionate, the food was absolutely delicious, and the setting was beautiful."

"My daughter went to HSIA and the Archeology Boot Camp during the summer of 2012. Although always a motivated and talented student, with an interest in Classics, she returned with a focus and passion I could never have imagined. The program is less structured than some others, only because it is a smaller group and the director can tailor the offerings to the passions of the students each year, and see how their interests develop over their time there. During my daughter's five weeks in Italy, she went on excursions to Florence, Siena, Perugia, and Spoleto among other places, and of course the Amalfi coast and Pompeii... she met wonderful artists, historians, graduate students. She read Latin poetry, visited archeological sites, explored museums and cathedrals, and researched St Francis. She learned to navigate a foreign country, learned to relax into its rhythms, and learned to appreciate it's beauty and history. And of course, she cheered for the Italian team during the Euro Cup. She returned with a passion for art history and medieval studies, with the ability to easily converse with college admissions representatives (who were Classics majors themselves) on the poetry of Propertius, and the confidence to jump on a plane to do it all over again this coming summer. Her teachers and advisors remarked on the change from a strong, but perhaps slightly dispassionate student, to a truly remarkable take-charge one. As a parent, I cannot rave enough. As a counselor, who advises high school students, I wish that all of my students could share in the kind of experience that my daughter had; one that allows students to develop their own intellectual passions freely, with teachers who encourage them and help build their confidence, with history and beauty surrounding them. "The Archaeology Boot Camp at Humanities Spring was one of the best experiences I have had for many reasons. I got the opportunity to see two beautiful parts of Italy with residents as guides, making the experience much more authentic than simply touring around. We got to see many places, ancient and otherwise, which only people with intimate knowledge of the area would know about, something which really enhanced the trip. The small group size made the experience very personal and friendly as well; everyone got to know each other really well and that made all the activities more enjoyable. The people in charge were a part of the group, so we developed close relationships with the teachers as well. When we were learning about the archaeology and history of certain sites, we weren't just fed information, we had to research and learn ourselves, which was fun and helped to make the sites we saw much more personal, as we had put work into understanding them. The sites were incredible, and we saw a great variety. All in all, I would go back in a heartbeat - the trip was wonderful and educational. "
