Program Description:

Washington Aerospace Scholars (WAS) is a distance learning and summer residency program for Washington State’s high school juniors. The program uses a NASA-designed curriculum. Participants are competitively selected for a summer residency experience that includes the design of a human mission to Mars, tours, briefings and hands-on engineering challenges. The program is free of charge.

Host: The Museum of Flight, Seattle, WA

Qualifications: Participants must be high school juniors with at least a 3.0 GPA, at least 16 years of age, Washington State residents, and U.S. citizens.

Program Dates / Length: Distance Learning: January to May. Summer Residencies: June or July. Each participant attends one six-day session.

Housing: Students complete the distance learning from their homes. Summer residency participants lodge at a local hotel.

Cost / Availability of Financial Aid: Thanks to the Washington Aerospace Scholars Foundation and our many generous donors, the program is free of charge. This includes the educational experience, as well as lodging, meals and travel expenses for selected summer residency participants.

Credit Awarded: Credit is not available at this time.
