Young Scholars Program, University of Maryland
Location: Maryland

Program Description:
The University of Maryland’s Young Scholars Program, July 12–31, 2009, is a great way for rising high school juniors and seniors to earn three college credits, pursue academic interests, discover career opportunities, and learn about university life. During three weeks of intellectual exploration, students preview the college experience, study with new friends who share similar interests, and engage with some of the University’s best faculty in a dynamic, challenging classroom environment.
In the Young Scholars Program, students enroll in one 3-credit introductory course, taking them from theory to practice through field trips or guest speakers. Subject areas include Architecture and Urban Planning, Creative Expression, The Business of Technology, The Environment, Science and Engineering, Communication, and Our Changing Society. Dynamic instructors create a learning environment that encourages creative problem-solving.
Students benefit from Maryland’s vast resources, including libraries, computer and instructional labs, and recreational, residential, and dining facilities. Beyond the classroom, seminars, social activities, and residential accommodations encourage the exchange of ideas and enrich the learning experience. Students may choose to live on campus or commute from home.
